This Privacy Policy for BACKLIP (“we,” “us,” or “our”) describes how we may collect, use, share, and retain information when you use our services (“Services”), including when you visit our website at https://backlip.com, use our applications on Shopify, Wix, Ecwid, Atlassian, Shoper, or other platforms, or contact us in any other way.
By using our Services, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use our Services.

1. What information do we collect?
We keep collection deliberately light - and we are specific about what that means:
Our direct customers (merchants / site owners): when you register for or use our apps, we collect only the contact information needed to run your account: your name, email address, phone number, and address, plus basic account and billing information.
Your end customers: we do not store them. Our apps run on your store or site, but we do not collect or store personal information about your customers - your shoppers, store visitors, or site end users. Their data stays in your store’s platform and systems; we neither retain it nor build profiles on it.
Information collected automatically: basic log data, device and browser information, and usage analytics, when permitted by your browser settings (see the Analytics section below).
Information from platforms: when you install our apps, the platform (e.g., Shopify, Atlassian, Wix, Ecwid) may share store and account data with us as needed to run the app. We access only what the platform makes available and what we need.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (e.g., racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, health data), and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (see Section 8).
2. How we use your information
We may use the information we collect for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to:
- Providing, operating, maintaining, and improving our apps and website
- Any product development, analytics, research, benchmarking, or quality improvement
- Communicating with you, including service and administrative messages
- Marketing and promotional communications, where we have your consent or another valid legal basis
- Detecting, preventing, and addressing fraud, abuse, and technical issues
- Complying with law and enforcing our terms
Where your consent is required by applicable law, we will ask for it. Otherwise, this Policy is intended to describe our practices broadly, and you agree to such use.
3. How we share information
WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION. WE DO NOT PASS, SHARE, OR DISCLOSE IT TO THIRD PARTIES FOR THEIR OWN PURPOSES - no advertising networks, no data brokers, no marketing partners, nothing like that.
The only situations where data leaves us are:
- Service providers acting on our behalf - vendors that host or help operate our Services (e.g., hosting, billing, and the analytics tools named below). They process data only to perform their function for us and are contractually barred from using it for their own purposes.
- Analytics providers - PostHog and Google Analytics, solely to measure usage of our Services (see Section 5).
- App marketplaces and platforms - as needed to list, deliver, and operate our apps.
- Professional advisers (lawyers, accountants) where needed.
- Authorities - where required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety.
- Any successor - in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Under laws such as the CCPA, sharing with service providers under these conditions does not constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.
4. International transfer
If you access our Services from another country, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, including countries that may not have equivalent data protection laws. You consent to such transfers by using our Services.
5. Analytics: PostHog and Google Analytics
We use product analytics to understand how our Services are used, from just two tools:
PostHog (product analytics + session replay). We use PostHog to track usage of our apps and website - events like page views, feature interactions, and errors. Data in PostHog is retained for 1 year. We do not use PostHog to collect names, addresses, or other contact information about identifiable individuals - only usage events.
PostHog session replay (video recordings). We also use PostHog’s session replay, which records on-screen activity - clicks, scrolls, mouse movements, and page navigation - so we can replay a session like a video and understand where users get stuck. Session replay runs only on backlip.com and our apps’ own settings/admin pages. It does NOT run on your store’s storefront or customer-facing pages - your shoppers are never recorded. Input values are masked by default, meaning what users type is never recorded. Recordings are covered by the same 1-year retention and can be deleted sooner on request.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure website traffic and usage. Google may use cookies to collect this data; event data is retained according to Google’s retention settings, which range from 2 to 14 months for standard accounts. You can opt out via your browser settings or Google’s opt-out tools.
No cross-tool profiling. We do not combine analytics data across tools to build profiles of identifiable people, and we do not feed analytics data to advertising systems.
We use only the cookies and similar technologies strictly necessary to operate our Services plus the analytics described above. You can control cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how our Services function.
6. Retention
Contact information of direct customers (merchants / site owners: name, email, phone, address) is retained only while your account is active, plus a short period afterwards for legal, tax, and legitimate business purposes.
End-customer data: we never store it in the first place (see Section 1).
Analytics data: PostHog retains usage events and session replay recordings for 1 year; Google Analytics retains event data per its settings (2–14 months for standard accounts). After those periods, the data is automatically deleted by those tools.
7. Security - no guarantee
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information. You use our Services at your own risk.
8. Minors
Our Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your privacy rights (required by law - not waivable)
Depending on where you live, applicable law gives you rights we cannot ask you to waive, including:
GDPR (EEA/UK): access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection; withdrawing consent at any time; complaining to your local supervisory authority.
CCPA/CPRA (California): the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used; the right to delete; the right to correct; and the right to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell personal information). California residents will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Other US states: residents of states with comparable laws (e.g., Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut) have similar rights.
To exercise any right, email backlipapps@gmail.com. We will respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity to process your request.
10. Do Not Track
We do not respond to web browser “do not track” signals, as there is no consistent industry standard for doing so. You can opt out of analytics cookies through your browser settings.
11. No warranties; exclusion of liability
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS OR AVAILABILITY. We make no commitment - and give no warranty, representation, or guarantee - that the Services will be available, uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; that defects will be corrected; that results, outcomes, rankings, traffic, revenue, or productivity effects from using the Services will meet your expectations; or that any content is accurate or reliable.
EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY - WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable to you or to any third party for any damages or losses of any kind whatsoever - whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive - including lost profits, lost revenue, lost sales, lost data, lost goodwill, loss of business opportunity, or business interruption, arising out of or in any way related to: your use of or inability to use the Services; any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the Services; unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; the conduct or content of any third party (including app marketplaces and platforms); or any other matter relating to the Services - however arising and regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort including negligence, strict liability, statute, or otherwise), whether or not we have been advised of or could have foreseen the possibility of such damages, and even if any remedy is found to have failed of its essential purpose.
ZERO LIABILITY CAP. Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Services is zero - we owe you nothing, under any circumstances, for any reason. If a court nevertheless determines that we must be liable for some amount for some reason, you agree that amount is limited to the absolute minimum permitted by applicable law and nothing more.
YOU ACCEPT THE RISK. You accept full responsibility and all risk for your use of the Services and for any decisions, actions, or results based on them. You confirm that you have not relied on any statement, promise, or representation other than what is written in this Policy.
NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. We provide software. Nothing in the Services or in any of our content is legal, financial, tax, accounting, marketing, or other professional advice, and you should not treat it as such.
THIRD PARTIES AND PLATFORMS. Our apps depend on third-party platforms (Shopify, Atlassian, Wix, Ecwid, Shoper, and others). We are not responsible for platform changes, outages, suspensions, delistings, or restrictions affecting our apps, or for the acts, omissions, or content of any third party. If you have a dispute with any third party, you release us from all claims, demands, and damages of every kind arising out of or connected with that dispute.
FORCE MAJEURE. We have no liability for any failure or delay caused by matters beyond our reasonable control, including outages, cyber-attacks, or acts of platform providers.
YOUR ONLY REMEDY. Your sole and exclusive remedy for any dissatisfaction with the Services is to stop using them and cancel your subscription.
TIME LIMIT ON CLAIMS. To the maximum extent permitted by law, any claim arising out of or relating to the Services or this Policy must be brought within one (1) year of the date the claim first arose; otherwise it is permanently barred.
INDEMNITY (YOU COVER US). To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold us harmless from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or connected with your use of the Services, your content, or your breach of this Policy or applicable law. We will give you notice of any such claim and reasonable cooperation in its defence at your expense.
INDEPENDENCE OF THESE PROVISIONS. Each provision in this section operates independently. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be limited or modified to the minimum extent necessary (or removed), and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. This section survives termination of your account and of any agreement between us.
NON-WAIVABLE MINIMUMS (the only exceptions). The only limits on the above are those that applicable law does not allow us to exclude, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for intentional misconduct - and, where you are a consumer or data subject in a jurisdiction that prohibits it, liability under mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection law (including Article 82 GDPR). We do not seek to exclude or limit liability in those cases, and nothing above should be read as attempting to. In every other case, our liability is excluded as set out above.
To the extent any part of this Policy is treated as contractual, these liability terms apply to it - and the same terms in our Terms of Service apply to your use of the Services.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy at any time. The current version is always at https://backlip.com/privacy/ with its “Last updated” date. Material changes may be announced on our website. Continued use of our Services after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
